Being the 5th and youngest daughter of a career homebuilder I have moved and lived in more homes than you can count on 2 hands. We even moved 5 times on the same street. As an adult I built and owned my first home at age 25. Since that time I have gotten married, had children and moved from one-side of the country to the other; and BACK again. All in the search of where to settle down and raise our 3 sons; including 2 special needs children. Having grown up on Whidbey Island and graduating from Coupeville High School I knew how simple and relaxing island life is. My husband and I had met and married on Whidbey Island. He too felt the quality of life on Whidbey to be worth striving for. But having been gone for 11 years when we arrived back on the island in 2006 we were discouraged about home ownership due to the prices of homes and the income we were settling for could prohibit us from owning our own home again. But in 2008 we stumbled upon the Saratoga Community Land trust program and began the process to qualify and hope it would lead to a home. We were very delighted when in November 2009 we received the call from Sandra Stipe saying they had homes in Oak Harbor. This home is perfect. It fits us so well, it is in a spectacular neighborhood, and we know we will live here forever. And the ability to leave it to our children is very important to us. We now spend our time relaxing, getting to know our neighbors, improving our home, and planning for a long future here on Whidbey Island.
